Natural Gas Conversion/Benefits

Understand Natural Gas Rates and Your Bill

Learn more about the two components that determine natural gas rates and how these and related charges appear on your utility bill.

Natural Gas Rates

Natural gas rates have two components, the delivery charge and the commodity charge.

The commodity charge makes up roughly 75 percent of a typical monthly natural gas bill. It reflects what PECO pays for natural gas on the wholesale market.

This cost, over which PECO has no control, is passed through to you without any mark-up from PECO.

The delivery charge reflects the cost of moving the natural gas from the international pipeline to your meter. Controlled by PECO, this is the portion of the bill that reflects the company’s business costs and profit.

The PECO bill provides details including your account number, how much natural gas you used during the current billing period, previous and current meter readings and meter reading dates. Here you will also find itemized natural gas charges including customer, distribution and purchased gas costs charges.
